Stories that matter

Oliver Crane

I write stories that sit close to real life. Crime, family, silence, loss, forgiveness and the damage done when power goes unchallenged all find their way into my books. For me, fiction is not only about plot. It is about understanding people, the choices they make, and the moments when life asks more of them than they expected. If a story can entertain, but also leave a reader thinking about justice, resilience, belonging or compassion, then it has done something worthwhile.

Two Series.
One Purpose.

The Nicholas Trilogy follows young lives shaped by loss, courage, friendship and the search for belonging. Set between Edinburgh, the Highlands and beyond, the trilogy explores how people find direction when the future they imagined has been swept away. The D.S. John Anderson Crime Series moves into darker territory. Set between Edinburgh and France, the series follows John Anderson and his team as they investigate crimes that expose exploitation, silence and the hidden power of those who believe they are beyond reach.

A Boy in a Storm

When Nicholas runs from a troubled home in Edinburgh, the Highlands become both refuge and test. Caught in a storm, he begins a journey of courage, friendship and change that will shape the trilogy to come.

Past, Present, and Hope

Financially successful but bereft of purpose, Gary Hughes returns to the Highland village of Auchenmore, where a fleeting moment of love once changed him. But the journey reawakens buried emotions and unresolved deeds, forcing Gary, and those still caught in the shadows of the past, to confront the truth of what happened all those years ago.

A Girl and Her Compass

With three young lives in ruins, Tracy retreats to her father’s luxurious London apartment, paralysed by fear and unable to face returning to Scotland. But when news of a calamity reaches her, she must confront the past she has been running from and find the courage to step toward the woman she once hoped to become.
